avi's adventures

Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade; And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find me, unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll; I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. William Ernest Henley.

Happiness & Disaster

So much to write, so little time.....

Let's just say that as time passes; as the leaves change colours and the lush, green landscape turns a pearly white; as the seasons move forward; as we age and grow and nourish our bodies and souls.....as all this happens, there is only one certainty. We approach our deaths. I don't want to be morbid or anything, but it's true.....no matter what path we take, the destination is the same for us all, regardless of....well, regardless of anything.

As we get older, and our own mortality begins to exert its fearful influence over us, we are faced with a growing threat....the threat of ineffectual existence. Our individual existence, defined in our own frakked up consciousness, can go one of two ways...either we are like the sand in the desert, or the stars in the sky.....we are each, individually, negligible. Collectively we might make up 6 plus billion people, but, individually, we are nothing but a speck of paint on a mural, or a blade of grass in a field. Or, individually, we are a universe unto ourselves. Each of us has a purpose, and our individual existence hinges on that purpose----on us defining what that purpose may purport to be, and to achieve it.

And yet, as we grow, we see this clearly, and still remain stagnant. Purpose, existence, clarity.....they all take a back seat to things like comfort and satisfaction. But, in the end, there's always 2 things....happiness and disaster.

But I guess that's life. Whether or not that's the way we are meant to live, I don't believe it matters. What matters is how we relate to others, our relationships. That's what defines us; lends us the strength to believe in that purpose, that existence. Until then, we continue making the same mistakes we've always made. Human nature dictates that our actions might not reflect our thoughts, but they definitely reflect our individual realities. This is the root, the foundation to which we cling, and without it, without this ideal that our actions are an outward projection of what's going on inside us, we are unable to connect to the ones we interact with. And that is, perhaps, the saddest thing of all.

2 things, my friends, 2 things....happiness and disaster.

Have a great shabbos!!!
