avi's adventures

Beyond this place of wrath and tears Looms but the horror of the shade; And yet the menace of the years Finds, and shall find me, unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll; I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul. William Ernest Henley.

The proverbial straw.....why Ilan Halimi?

Y'know, as a Jew and as a Zionist, call me names. Tell me Israel doesn't have a right to exist; tell me that Zionism is racism; even tell me the Holocaust never happened.....I can deal. But this......this, I cannot deal with. This story is tragic not only because of what happened, but because no one is reporting it. A Danish newspaper runs cartoons; the world stops spinning. A young Jew is abducted and tortured for 2 weeks at the hands of French Muslim youth; business as usual. Maybe that's the problem.....just business as usual.

May Ilan Halimi's painful end serve as a reminder to the rest of us Jews that no matter how advanced we think we've come; no matter how nice people speak to and about us; no matter how goods things are looking, remember, there is a Jew somewhere in this world that is paying the price of his Judaism with his life. It is incumbent on us to ensure this does not repeat.

Please find articles on Ilan and read them. He is a true modern day hero, and only together can we ensure his life wasn't taken for nothing.

Prayers and good wishes to the Halimi family and to all Jews worldwide that continue to believe in what it means to lead a Jewish life. Amen.
